Florida SB 790/HB 669
Summary: These bills (each titled the Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up for All Students Act) would prohibit bullying or harassment in public schools, K-12. They do not contain enumerated categories for sexual orientation or gender identity; however, legislators stated that they intend for the bills to prohibit bullying and harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Status: On April 18, 2008, HB 669 passed the House by a 112-0 vote. On April 30, 2008, SB 790 passed the Senate by a 40-0 vote. The proposed Act now goes to Governor Crist’s desk.
