Why should this be a priority for the 111th Congress?

According to the most recent Census, there are an estimated 35,820 binational, same-sex couples residing in the United States. However, under current law, many of these American families are forced to make a difficult choice between following their love for their family and for their country. By allowing permanent partners and their children the same opportunities for immigration as other families, we can fulfill the central principles of U.S. immigration law – we can unite families while preventing immigration fraud.
