Generation Equality Scholarships

The HRC Foundation will award three non-renewable $2,000 scholarships to LGBT and allied students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the fight for queer equality.

At HRC, the goal of the Youth & Campus Outreach Program is to provide tools, facilitate connections and empower GenEQ (Generation Equality) to fight for LGBT equality on campus and beyond. In that spirit, we’re committed to helping young queers and allies reach institutions of higher education and equipping them with the means they need to remain there.

All too often, queer students face obstacles in the pursuit of education, whether it’s a lack of family support or bad experiences in the classroom. Those reasons, combined with the current economy, make it even more important that HRC provide help to those seeking or already in higher education.

In addition to establishing an ever-expanding list of more than 200 scholarships available to LGBT and allied students, the HRC Foundation is pleased to offer the Generation Equality Scholarship to three exceptional student activists who share our commitment to LGBT equality and will continue to create meaningful change on their campuses and in their communities.

Priority will be given to applicants who:

  • Self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or an ally
  • Have applied to or are enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education
  • Have demonstrated a commitment or contribution to the LGBT community
  • Are in good academic standing
  • Have demonstrated need for financial assistance
