Summary: This bill would have permitted local units of government to define “dependents” for purposes of employee benefits at their discretion, permitting local government to provide benefits to domestic partners and children of domestic partners.
Status: This bill passed the Senate April 3, 2008 by a 43-22 vote and passed the House May 15, 2008 by an 83-50 vote. On May 18, 2008, it was vetoed by Gov. Pawlenty.
