The Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.


Pride & Membership Events Internship

The Pride & Membership Events Intern will work with staff to broaden HRC’s outreach and visibility and build our grassroots membership base. This intern will play an integral part in coordinating and fulfilling membership and administrative requests generated from our Pride, Community Events, Athletes for Equality, Her HRC, Wedding Registry and Gift Membership programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to all Membership Outreach staff
  • Assist in coordination of HRC’s presence at 180+ pride events including: managing the Pride database, preparing event logistics, and assisting with staff travel arrangements
  • Assist with maintenance and growth of the Athletes for Equality program
  • Assist with the preparation of the team’s participation in the HRC Equality Convention
  • Assist department in planning and execution of community events when needed
  • Fulfillment of Wedding Registry and Gift Membership acknowledgements
  • Ship HRC branded materials to volunteer co-chairs for community events

 

Qualifications:

  • Professional and responsible manner
  • Willingness to learn the details of membership recruitment in a non-profit setting
  • Proficiency in or willingness to work with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access with the ability to become adept at the use of these and other computer programs
  • Experience in event planning/management and volunteer coordination preferred
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in LGBTQ issues


Outcomes:

  • Gain transferable database management skills
  • Gain experience working with many dedicated, high-level volunteers throughout the country
  • Gain experience in all aspects of planning simultaneous small-scale events
  • Gain knowledge of HRC's role in modern LGBTQ rights movement


Other:

  • This is an unpaid internship. School credit is available upon request
  • This internship is based out of our office in Washington, D.C. Internships are also available in HRC’s Project One America offices in Little Rock, Ark., Jackson, Miss., and Birmingham, Ala. We cannot provide housing for our interns
