The Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.


Data & Analytics Internship

The HRC Data & Analytics Department is responsible for the analysis and utilization of data with the overarching goal of leveraging HRC’s five million record database to strategically support and fulfill the organization’s fundraising and programmatic objectives. The Data & Analytics Internship provides an opportunity to learn and enhance skills relating to database management, quality assurance, data visualization, and basic SQL coding (Structured Query Language). Some examples of ongoing tasks are reviewing incoming/outgoing data files for fundraising and advocacy campaigns; assisting staff and interns from around the organization by answering frequently asked questions about the membership database; data cleanup projects; exploring the use of infographics to communicate data and trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing data requested by various teams
  • Monitoring incoming results from fundraising campaigns
  • Researching and answering problems that our database users experience
  • Making edits and corrections to membership records in HRC’s Oracle database
  • Providing feedback and ideas on ways to incorporate data visualization
  • Providing administrative support to members of the Data & Analytics team


Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a database and proficiency in Excel preferred
  • Willingness to learn basic statistical methodologies to assist with ad hoc analyses
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with infographic creation a plus
  • Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Passion for/ interest in LGBTQ issues

  • Inside experience with a highly active and professional organization
  • Enhanced Excel skills and familiarity with dynamic web-based databases such as SalesForce and ROI (Revolution Online)
  • Learn basic database querying skills (SQL)
  • Have the opportunity to learn the work of the Human Rights Campaign across all departments

  • This is an unpaid internship. School credit is available upon request
  • This internship is based out of our office in Washington, D.C. Internships are also available in HRC’s Project One America offices in Little Rock, Ark., Jackson, Miss., and Birmingham, Ala. We cannot provide housing for our interns
