While HRC’s political arm advances LGBT rights in the legislative and policy arenas, the HRC Foundation builds support for LGBT people among families and friends, co-workers and employers, pastors and parishioners, doctors and teachers, neighbors, and the general public. Through research, advocacy, training, and outreach, the HRC Foundation works to enhance the lived experiences of LGBT people and their families across America and around the globe. We are currently seeking interns to assist HRC Foundation staff in the coordination of this department, as well as in support of our programmatic work on HIV/AIDS, racial justice, and transgender equity.
· Provide administrative support to HRCF staff, including but not limited to drafting correspondence, scheduling meetings, sending publications, arranging travel, faxing/photocopying, etc.
· Conduct and summarize research on a wide range of LGBT issues, such as workplace discrimination, adoption and foster care access, youth homelessness, LGBT health disparities etc.
· Write and/or edit blog posts, policy memos, and other short publications on issues relevant to HRCF programs, priorities, and accomplishments
· Attend biweekly HRCF department meetings and take notes when appropriate
· Attend HRC U brown bags and other local events on relevant LGBT issues
· Help HRCF staff work across departments to ensure teamwork and collaboration on issues relevant to HRCF programs, priorities, and accomplishments
· Maintain inventory of HRCF publications and other such resources
· Other duties as assigned
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Google applications
· Demonstrated knowledge of and/or interest in LGBT issues, particularly HIV/AIDS, racial justice, and/or transgender equity
· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
· Demonstrated experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter) is a plus
· Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse identities and background is a plus
· Top-notch administrative skills necessary to any entry-level position
· Deepened understanding of contemporary LGBT issues
· Refined written and oral communication skills
· Increased familiarity with the HRC Foundation and its work to advance equality
· Increased ability to coordinate a multi-program department within a large non-profit organization
