Sample Employment Non-Discrimination Policies
The third requirement of the Non-Discrimination and Staff Training criteria, Employment Non-Discrimination, requires healthcare organizations to implement and document an employment non-discrimination policy that explicitly protects LGBT individuals by including the terms “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.”
The following excerpts from healthcare organizations' employment non-discrimination policies (or equal employment opportunity policies) meet this requirement.
- HOSPITAL and its affiliated organizations are committed to adherence to the letter and spirit of the laws that define equal employment opportunity and are pledged to affirmative action. Therefore, HOSPITAL will recruit, hire, promote and transfer qualified persons into all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, national origin or citizenship status, sex, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, sexual orientation, age, disability, or military status.
- It is the policy of HOSPITAL to provide equal employment opportunity to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, status as a disabled veteran and/or Veteran of the Vietnam Era, genetic information or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
- The continued success of HOSPITAL depends heavily on its effort to effectively utilize the talents of all qualified people. Therefore, HOSPITAL prohibits employment decisions based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, parental status, veteran status, military discharge status, citizenship status or source of income or any other protected status. All employment decisions are based on 1) individual merit, qualifications and competence as they relate to a particular position and 2) promotion of the principle of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
- In all matters related to employee hiring or status - including but not limited to: advertising, recruitment, selection, employment, placement, compensation, benefits, upgrading, training, transfer, promotion, demotion, realignment, and termination - it is the policy of HOSPITAL to provide equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state, or local laws, unless such distinction is required by law.
