- Participated in the HEI 2012, but didn’t receive training credit
The Core Four training page in the HEI 2013 shows whether you received 2012 training credit.
If you did not, you can easily achieve credit in the HEI 2013 by registering the required number of managers, as explained below, either for:
- Free, expert training from the HRC Foundation OR
- Training you arrange that meets the requirements below
As explained below, the number of managers required to attend depends on whether your organization is a network. The required managers must be registered for training by March 1, 2013, but training can be completed anytime before June 30, 2013.
Free, Live Expert Webinar from HRC Foundation
Your organization can receive HEI 2013 training credit by registering the required managers, as explained below, for HRC’s unique, acclaimed webinar, LGBT Patient-Centered Care: An Executive Briefing. This highly engaging and informative 90-minute overview gives senior healthcare managers the information they need to ensure that their organizations provide optimal care for LGBT patients and are in full compliance with CMS and Joint Commission requirements.
“I was on your webinar today and I must say it was one of the best training sessions I have had in my 20 years in healthcare.”
--Jeff Doucette, MS, RN, FACHE, Chief Nursing Officer
, Bon Secours Health System
This popular webinar will be offered six times, January-June 2013. Managers can attend on any date they choose, and can attend individually or together. And once your organization has registered the required managers for the Executive Briefing, you can register as many additional employees as you’d like for the Executive Briefing or for two additional free, expert webinars from HRC, Your LGBT Patients: An Introduction and Transgender Patients: Organizational Best Practices.
If your organization wants to take advantage of the free HRC Executive Briefing, choose the Core Four training page option "Yes, will provide training through HRC" and make sure all required managers are registered for the Executive Briefing by March 1, 2013. No additional documentation is needed.
Other Training
Your organization can also receive HEI 2013 training credit by registering the required managers, as explained below, for expert training that’s equivalent to the HRC Executive Briefing (see the FAQs below for requirements).
If your organization wants to arrange its own training, subject to the requirements in the FAQs:
- Choose the Core Four training page option "Yes, have provided/will provide other training"
- Contact HEI staff to make sure the training planned meets the requirements in the FAQs
- By March 1, 2013, upload via the Core Four training page documentation of trainer expertise, documentation of training length and content, and documentation that the required senior managers have registered for training

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the training registration deadline?
Online registrations (for HRC training) or a sign-up sheet (for approved other training) must be submitted by March 1, 2013.
Can training happen after the March 1 registration deadline?
Yes. If all required managers are registered for HRC or approved other training by March 1, 2013, and they attend training by June 30, 2013, training credit will be given.
Do all managers need to register for the same training date?
No. Each can register for any training that occurs by June 30, 2013. HRC training will be offered every month through June 2013.
What if our organization has different titles for the five work areas from which at least one manager must attend a training?
The five work areas listed are intended to provide general guidance, recognizing that different organizations may title these areas differently. If in doubt about whether a training attendee works within a required area, or if your organization lacks a work area listed, please contact HEI staff.
What if our network doesn’t have a senior manager in each of the required five work areas at the central/headquarters facility?
Please contact HEI staff, indicating which of the work areas are represented at your central/headquarters facility.
Can we register additional managers and/or non-managerial employees for the HRC Executive Briefing?
If your organization has registered all managers required to attend the Executive Briefing for training credit, an unlimited number of other managers from your organization can also register for the Executive Briefing. Please note that the Executive Briefing is designed for managers--rather than front-line staff or other non-managerial employees--because it discusses best organizational practices for LGBT care, as well as LGBT patients’ concerns and experiences. Also, the Executive Briefing does not provide medical information, although provider-related challenges are discussed and are often of interest to clinicians.
Organizations that have registered the required managers for the Executive Briefing are warmly invited to register an unlimited number of interested staff members, at any level, for one or both of these additional free, expert webinars:
- Your LGBT Patients: An Introduction. This 60-minute live webinar is available to organizations that have registered the required senior managers for the Executive Briefing. It is ideal for interested non-managerial employees. Managers who have attended the Executive Briefing should not take this 60-minute webinar, since its content is covered in the Executive Briefing. Register or learn more.
- Transgender Patients: Organizational Best Practices. This 60-minute live webinar is available to organizations that have registered the required senior managers for the Executive Briefing. It is ideal for staff members who would like to learn more about how their organizations can better serve transgender patients. Please note, however, that it focuses on organizational practices, not clinical information. Register or learn more.
We want to arrange our own training, equivalent to the Executive Briefing. What requirements does it have to meet?
- Training must be at least 90 minutes long
- Trainer must have documented expertise and experience in training and in LGBT patient-centered care (CV, resume, or biosketch must be uploaded via the Core Four training page)
- Training content must provide, at minimum, background information about LGBT people relevant to healthcare, data about healthcare concerns and experiences of LGBT people in general and LGBT subgroups, key resources for healthcare organizations seeking to optimize LGBT care, information about relevant legal and regulatory requirements, and detailed information about a wide range of organizational best practices in LGBT care, including those featured in the HEI (content documentation must be uploaded via the Core Four training page)
- Training must occur by June 30, 2013
