Your LGBT Patients: An Introduction
In response to numerous requests, HRC is delighted to offer HEI-participating organizations a free, 60-minute live webinar designed to familiarize interested non-managerial employees with the needs and concerns of LGBT patients. Many attendees at the 90-minute Executive Briefing for managers want to share what they have learned about LGBT patients with non-managerial staff, and this shorter webinar is designed to do just that, presenting the engaging information and insights of the Executive Briefing without manager-level material on organizational best practices.
Note: This webinar is available only to organizations that received HEI 2012 training credit or organizations that have registered the required number of senior managers for the 2013 Executive Briefing.
This unique free webinar for interested non-managerial employees covers these key topics and more:
- Background about LGBT patients, essential to providing good care
- LGBT patients’ healthcare experiences & concerns, often surprising even to long-term employees
- How to relate comfortably, knowledgeably and sensitively to LGBT patients, using down-to-earth tips for providing optimal care
Shane Snowdon oversees the Healthcare Equality Index as Director of the Health & Aging Program of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
Before joining the HRC Foundation in 2012, Shane headed the Center for LGBT Health & Equity at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), which she founded in 1999. At UCSF, a U.S. News “honor roll hospital” that is San Francisco’s largest healthcare provider, she developed nation-leading programs and services that made it the only healthcare organization to receive a perfect score on the HEI every year.
Shane served as Project Adviser for The Joint Commission LGBT Field Guide (2011), and she has provided acclaimed training and consulting for thousands of senior managers at hospitals, clinics, and conferences nationwide. She has also taught and lectured extensively at medical and nursing schools, and she authored Recommendations for LGBT Equity & Inclusion in Health Professions Education (2012).
Shane’s groundbreaking work has been recognized by numerous awards, including the University of California’s Award for Exceptional University Service, the Achievement Award of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association, and the Ally Award of the Transgender Law Center.
This engaging free webinar is ideal for interested non-managerial employees at organizations that received HEI 2012 training credit or organizations that have registered the required senior managers for the 2013 Executive Briefing. These organizations may register an unlimited number of employees for this webinar.
Because of length limitations, this webinar does not provide medical information, although provider-related challenges are discussed and may well be of interest to clinicians. Managers should not attend this webinar if they have attended the 2012 or 2013 Executive Briefing, which covers the same material.
Organizations that have registered the managers required to attend the Executive Briefing for training credit are also warmly invited to register an unlimited number of staff members for this additional free webinar:
Transgender Patients: Organizational Best Practices. It is ideal for staff members who would like to learn more about how their organizations can better serve transgender patients. Please note, however, that it focuses on organizational practices, not clinical information. Register or learn more.
Please contact HEI staff with any questions about attendees or registration.
