Trainer

Shane Snowdon oversees the Healthcare Equality Index as Director of the Health & Aging Program of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Before joining the HRC Foundation in 2012, Shane headed the Center for LGBT Health & Equity at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), which she founded in 1999. At UCSF, a U.S. News “honor roll hospital” that is San Francisco’s largest healthcare provider, she developed nation-leading programs and services that made it the only healthcare organization to receive a perfect score on the HEI every year.

Shane served as Project Adviser for The Joint Commission LGBT Field Guide (2011), and she has provided acclaimed training and consulting for thousands of managers and other staff at hospitals, clinics, and conferences nationwide. She has also taught and lectured extensively at medical and nursing schools, and she authored Recommendations for LGBT Equity & Inclusion in Health Professions Education (2012).

Shane’s groundbreaking work has been recognized by numerous awards, including the University of California’s Award for Exceptional University Service, the Achievement Award of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association, and the Ally Award of the Transgender Law Center.

The Executive Briefing is designed for senior managers at organizations seeking to meet the requirements for HEI 2013 training credit. After an organization has registered the managers required to attend the Executive Briefing for training credit, an unlimited number of other managers from that organization may register for it.

Please note that the Executive Briefing is designed for managers--rather than front-line staff or similar employees--because it discusses best organizational practices for LGBT care, as well as LGBT patients’ concerns and experiences. Also, the Executive Briefing does not provide medical information, although provider-related challenges are discussed and may well be of interest to clinicians.

Organizations that have registered the managers required to attend the Executive Briefing for training credit are warmly invited to register an unlimited number of staff members, at any level, for one or both of these additional free webinars:

This 60-minute live webinar is available to organizations that either received HEI 2012 training credit or have registered the required senior managers for the 2013 Executive Briefing. It is ideal for interested non-managerial employees. Managers who have attended the Executive Briefing in 2012 or 2013 should not take this 60-minute webinar, since its content is covered in the Executive Briefing. Register or learn more.

Transgender Patients: Organizational Best Practices. This 60-minute live webinar is available to organizations that either received HEI 2012 training credit or have registered the required senior managers for the 2013 Executive Briefing. It is ideal for staff members who would like to learn more about how their organizations can better serve transgender patients. Please note, however, that it focuses on organizational practices, not clinical information. Register or learn more.
