Election Night Blog

Even though things are pretty much wrapped up, there are still a few key results we're waiting on here at HRC's election headquarters.

In the still-too-close-to-call Virginia Senate race, HRC endorsee Jim Webb is reportedly up over anti-gay incumbent George Allen by a few thousand votes, but the media is saying Allen will probably call for a recount -- it could be weeks before the final result of that race is in. We're also still waiting to hear whether Patricia Madrid, HRC's endorsed candidate for a U.S. House seat in New Mexico, has defeated incumbent Rep. Heather Wilson, a so-called "moderate" who has nevertheless voted against GLBT interests at every opportunity.

And we're still waiting to hear whether we've won fair-minded majorities in several key state legislative chambers, including the Pennsylvania House. Those state races could wind up having a big impact on the future of GLBT equality in the year to come.

Stay tuned!
