This week, HRC’s organizing team hunkered down in Bridgeport to get folks excited about the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign’s efforts to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). We hit the pavement to talk to hundreds of Bridgeporters about the work we’re doing to show support for ENDA in Illinois’s Third Congressional District.
First, our team of staff and volunteers blitzed local small businesses and invited them to sign a coalition letter in support of ENDA. In just one day, our canvassing produced dozens of signatures from Bridgeport small business owners who understand that workplace discrimination is bad for business and want employment protections for all Americans now. Later, we hung out at the LGBT Neighbors in Bridgeport meeting at the First Trinity Lutheran Church. There, we discussed plans to unify the LGBT community in Bridgeport and the ways folks can engage on ENDA. We also had the opportunity to join a Bridgeport Alliance meeting at the Meyer Center where we got to participate in a broader discussion of legislative goals in the area and bring ENDA to the table.
