I have known Chris Quinn for over 20 years. We met in 1991 when I was working for then-Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger and Chris was running Tom Duane's campaign for City Council. Back then she was hard-working, smart, and always ready with a smile. But what I remember most about Chris was how she cared about people and their families. During the campaign I remember her asking volunteers how loved ones were doing. When someone wasn't in the best of moods Chris would find a story to tell to bring a smile to their face. I believe it is Chris' caring about her friends, family, neighbors, and city and her ability to deliver results for them that makes Chris the best candidate for Mayor.
While the Human Rights Campaign has endorsed Chris Quinn for Mayor because HRC believes she is the most qualified to lead this great American city, or as Walt Whitman called it, "City of the World," it's important to also acknowledge that she is a proud part of the LGBT community. For two decades she has fought for better access for healthcare and housing for people with AIDS, especially in the earlier days of the AIDS pandemic when New York was not moving fast enough to provide healthcare for the most vulnerable. She has continued to fight for the LGBT community and traveled to Albany and worked passionately to pass marriage equality.
She has fought hard for so many for so long. We know her well. She is family.
Please vote tomorrow for Chris Quinn for Mayor and please urge others to do the same. Let's make history in the Big Apple. Let's elect Chris Quinn for Mayor.
