On Sunday in Iowa Vice President Biden took time out of his speech at a fundraiser for Senator Tom Harkin to reinforce his support for the LGBT community and marriage equality.
Vice President Biden explained that he received criticism for vocalizing his support for marriage equality.
“I could not remain silent any longer,” said Biden of his decision in 2012 to publicly announce his support on “Meet the Press”. “It’s the civil rights of our day. It’s the issue of our day.”
Just last week, Vice President Biden again defended his support for marriage equality during the 19th anniversary celebration of the Violence Against Women Act.
“I make no apologies on the issue of marriage,” he said at the time.
President Obama and his administration have done more to support LGBT Americans than any other administration in history: from Obama’s historic endorsement of marriage equality, to repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” to hospital visitation for same-sex partners and numerous other administrative changes throughout the government.
Vice President Biden’s speech is yet another example of the unprecedented support LGBT Americans receive under Obama’s administration.
