Today in Charlotte, North Carolina, HRC kicked off its tour with longtime HRC supporter Jim Obergefell, the named plaintiff in the historic marriage equality case currently in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Chris Sgro, Executive Director for Equality NC, Charlotte City Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield, Norena Gutierrez of the Freedom Center for Social Justice and Rev. Debra Hopkins, a community leader and transgender woman of faith, joined us outside of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center to celebrate and highlight the important challenges ahead beyond marriage in our fight for LGBT equality, including passing fully comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBT people.
Obergefell is a name that will soon go down in the history books, and HRC is proud to join him on the road.
The U.S. Supreme Court has before it the opportunity to bring marriage equality to loving, committed same-sex couples in all 50 states.
We’re bringing you updates from the road throughout June. Stay tuned for more. And for the latest breaking news out of the Supreme Court, visitwww.hrc.org/scotus.
