This year, many companies took their commitment to the LGBT community to the next level by featuring LGBT individuals and same-sex couples in their ads.
Visibility is an important part of our work to change hearts and minds and achieve full equality. Though it may seem small, including depictions of average LGBT individuals in advertisements send a powerful message to all Americans about the equality of LGBT lives.
In case you missed it, here are a few from HRC’s top-performers on the Corporate Equality Index.
Continuing its history of support for the LGBT community, in April Nordstrom included two same-sex couples in its wedding suite commercial. Nordstrom is ranked as one the Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality on the HRC Corporate Equality Guide, and scored a 100 rating in 2014 for its commitment to policies and practices related to LGBT employees.
In a commercial for Outlook, Microsoft featured a lesbian couple celebrating their wedding day outside of a city hall. Microsoft scored a 100 percent on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index and is also listed as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.

Amazon consistently receives top ratings on the CEI. And, in 2012, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Mackenzie donated $2.5 million to the fight for marriage equality in the company’s home state of Washington.

In its January catalogue, CEI top-scorer Crate & Barrel released this adorable ad featuring two men enjoying a romantic dinner together.
