In just one week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in two historic marriage cases that are about whether gay and lesbian Americans should have the same freedoms as everyone else. The two cases - the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Prop 8 - are about liberty, freedom, and equality.
The momentum is palpable. A major independent poll out yesterday found a supermajority (58 percent) of Americans support the freedom to marry the person you love. And 75 percent of Americans view the freedom to marry the person you love as a Constitutional right. The nation is ready for marriage equality.
HRC is proud to partner with other LGBT and allied organizations in the United for Marriage Coalition. The coalition is planning events in both DC and around the country to show the broad and diverse support for marriage. There are already 150 events planned in all 50 states - find out what going on in your area and get involved now!
In Washington DC, United for Marriage will be holding an event at the Supreme Court beginning at 8:30am in the morning on March 26. If you're in the area and want to join us for this truly historic moment, go to www.hrc.org/standformarriage.
