Field Organizers on the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign wasted no time getting started on the work to secure Senator Rob Portman’s YES vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). After only a couple days on the job, organizers and volunteer canvassers spent the weekend at Toledo Pride and at the HRC Gala Dinner in Cleveland. At these events, organizers had the chance to explain to Ohioans why passing ENDA is so important. And even more relevant, they were able to talk about Senator Portman’s support for marriage equality and the work we must all do to get him to the right place on employment protections.

Not only did the canvassers hit the ground running, they exceeded their first weekend postcard collection goal by nearly 20%!  It’s clear from the conversations that we held, and the willingness of people to engage, that folks across Ohio are ready, willing and energized to do what we must to win Senator Portman’s vote when the time comes.

This weekend, the team will have a presence at events from Cincinnati to Cleveland, Toledo to Columbus.  And we’re looking for volunteers to come with us as we talk to festival, parade and picnic goers about why no one should be fired simply because of who they are.  If you’d like to join us this weekend in either Columbus (Saturday & Monday), Toledo (Monday), Cincinnati (Sunday & Monday) or Loraine Co. (Monday), please contact me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and I’ll make sure you’re connected to the appropriate field organizer.
