Post submitted by Jose Garcia, one of the Americans for Workplace Opportunity on the ground in Nevada working to pass a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

This week in Nevada, my fellow organizers and I held a community meeting at the Southern Nevada LGBT Community Center. The meeting was specifically focused on raising awareness and developing strategies for The Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign and passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

We're committed to ensuring that the Nevada community is strongly included in the campaign to secure every American's right to have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families. This is what Thursdays community meeting was about: bringing together community leaders and HRC staff to talk about methods of working effectively and successfully for ENDA in Nevada.

The major points that were covered and agreed upon included organizing on the nearby 30,000 college student campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), as well as learning how to begin and maintain a strong presence online in social media.

Nevada is a particularly unique state for ENDA since there are already similar protections for the LGBT community at the state level. The challenge is assisting the community in understanding exactly why the protections we already afford in Nevada should be granted to all Americans in the form of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

Join us in Las Vegas this Thursday, September 19th, to take action in support of the ENDA campaign. Click here to find out how to get involved.
