Today on CNN, Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission President Richard Land dubbed gay men’s participation in Boy Scouts of America ‘a catastrophe.'

He goes on to allege that a BSA's policy change would endanger children.  “Do parents really want to allow their teenage boys to go on camp-outs with men who are attacted to the same-sex? This verges on-- being beyond the realm of rational and it’s going to lead to human tragedy. And the human tragedy is going to be boys, men ending in relationship that are going to be tragic."

Land seems to ignore the fact, as CNN anchor John Berman pointed out, that heterosexual women are allowed to be Den Mothers.

BSA announced last week a possible policy change that would remove the national ban on gay Scouts, but permit the local religious, civic or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine membership and leadership.

The Boy Scouts of America is accepting public feedback on this decision prior to the vote, which is expected on Wednesday. It’s our duty to let them know that even if discrimination occurs only in one troop, or against one Scout, that’s one too many.

Join HRC is calling on the BSA board to adopt an official non-discrimination policy.
