Missouri flag

Since February, I have worked in Missouri for HRC alongside PROMO, the state-based LGBT advocacy organization. As we work to pass a strong state law providing anti-discrimination protections for all Missourians in employment, housing and public accommodation, we know that support from the business community is critical to our success.  And that’s where my job begins.

Tasked with finding corporate support for equality in Missouri, I imagined the search might be complicated and yield limited results. I am pleased to say that’s just not the case here in Missouri.

More than half of Missouri’s 50 largest private employers have policies in place aimed at creating workplaces free from anti-LGBT discrimination.  The cities of Kansas City and St. Louis, as well as the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce are supporters of the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA).  Our team has been reaching out to companies with phone calls, emails and one-on-one meetings, with impressive results to date.  More than 300 companies have signed on in support of MONA.

Missouri lawmakers are set to wrap up their legislative session by late May, so we still have opportunities to increase our corporate support for MONA.  Find out more about the campaign and how businesses can sign on in support at
