Get ready Rockford! This week we had our first planning meeting for Rockford Pride 2014! The Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign has been on the ground in Rockford since January organizing to secure Congressman Kinzinger’s YES vote on ENDA when it is called in the US House.

We will be working with local congregations, local businesses and students from Rock Valley College to bring you three days of political action, dancing, feasting and general merriment at Pride. Our event is slated for July 18 to July 20, so mark your calendars now.

Here is the preliminary schedule is looking like:

Friday, July 18:

  • Afternoon Lobby Meeting with Rep. Kinzinger at his Belvidere office.
  • Party + Show at The Office Niteclub.

Saturday, July 19:

  • Rally for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act at a TBA location.

Sunday, July 20

  • Community Picnic at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford. Vendors from Rockford will be present and selling their wares.

This will be a great opportunity to come out and show some PRIDE in Northern Illinois. And more specifically, it is an opportunity to take direct political action to influence Cong. Kinzinger as we collect postcards, write letters, and make phone calls on-site to raise the voices of his constituents.  Organizationally we will need volunteers to help us out over the coming weeks to help plan and throw a great event.
