Post submitted by Maureen McCarty, former HRC Deputy Director of Marketing

This morning, Sean Eldridge announced his run to represent New York’s 19th District, challenging Republican Rep. Chris Gibson, who scored a zero on HRC’s 112th Congressional Scorecard.

Now president of the investment fund Hudson River Ventures, Eldridge has a long commitment to LGBT equality and advocacy work. Eldridge, who is openly gay, worked full-time in support of marriage equality in 2010 and 2011 as communication director and then political director of Freedom to Marry. He also served on the board of directors of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders and on the finance committee of Mainers United for Marriage Equality.

Additionally, Eldridge has supported numerous LGBT candidates across the country and in partnership with HRC has helped raise resources, expand networks and win difficult races.

Eldridge is married to American entrepreneur Chris Hughes, cofounder of Facebook and editor-in-chief of The New Republic.
