Following a ruling on Friday that overturned Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage, a federal judge has denied a request to put a halt to marriages pending the full appeals process.
Utah U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby ruled on Friday that the state’s ban on marriage equality is unconstitutional “because it denies the Plaintiffs their rights to due process and equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.”
Shelby also denied the stay on the ruling. The state of Utah is now expected to appeal the decision to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver.
