Today Congresman Huelskamp joined the discriminatory National Organization for Marriage for its discriminatory March for Marriage in Washington, D.C.

While speaking before a small crowd outside of the U.S. Capitol, Kansas Rep. Huelskamp conceded that the same-sex marriage opponents are, in fact, losing ground. Indeed, marriage equality is supported by an overwhelming majority (59%) of Americans.

Rep. Huelskamp goes on to implore men to protect women, who are “desperately looking for a husband, desperately looking for a father.”

Huelskamp is the only Congressmember to speak out against marriage equality at today’s rally.  Since entering the House of Representatives in 2011, Huelskamp has earned the reputation as one of the most anti-LGBT members of Congress. Last year, Rep. Huelskamp introduced a federal constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. He also lead the charge to restore section 3 of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, immediately following the Supreme Court’s decision striking it down as unconstitutional. He has also attempted to amend several appropriations bills to prohibit federal funds from being used “in contravention of” the Defense of Marriage Act as well as for “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal training materials for military chaplains.
