The Project One America kick-off tour continues with a press conference today at the State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi.
HRC President Chad Griffin joined Rep. Jim Evans, Rep. Rufus Straughter, Rep. Alyce Clark - the first African American woman elected to the Mississippi State Legislature, NAACP MS State President Derrick Johnson, Joce Pitchett and Carla Webb, Northside Baptist Church Rev. Stan Wilson, My Brother's Keeper President and CEO Dr. June Gibson, ACLU of MS Legal Director Charles Irvin, and Equality Mississippi Board Member Melanie Deas.
HRC's Project One America is a comprehensive, multi-year campaign to dramatically expand LGBT equality in the South through permanent campaigns in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas. Help HRC Achieve LGBT Equality in Mississippi.
Later today, HRC will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, which recently passed a resolution recognizing LGBT residents. Hattiesburg was the second Mississippi municipality to pass such a resolution, alongside Starkville, Magnolia, Oxford and Greenville.
