Michael Angelakos, the frontman of the band Passion Pit, came out publicly yesterday.

"I'm gay. And that's it. It just has to happen," Angelakos told Bret Easton Ellis in a podcast interview.

In the interview, he also opened up about his divorce from his wife and battling bipolar disorder.

“I've received so many kind and supportive messages today,” Passion Pit tweeted. “Thank you for reaching out and being so kind to me.”

Whether it's for the first time ever or the first time today, the experience of coming out and living openly covers the full spectrum of human emotion -- from fear to euphoria. Coming out -- whether it is as LGBT or allied -- is a deeply personal journey for each individual.
