A recent Public Policy Polling poll finds 71 percent of North Carolinian voters do not believe that employers should be able to discriminate based on sexual orientation.
Despite broad, bipartisan support for employment non-discrimination protections, North Carolina law does not currently prohibit discrimination in the workforce based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Right now in 29 states, there is no state law protecting a gay, lesbian or bisexual person from being fired just because of who they are – and the same is true in 34 states for transgender people.
Join HRC in calling on Congress to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to provide basic protections against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.
