An openly gay high school senior in California schooled her fellow classmates in her yearbook quote.
Now going viral, Caitlyn Cannon, who also identifies as a feminist, found the quote on Tumblr and changed it to fit her personal point of view.
The quote reads, "I need feminism because I intend on marrying rich and I can't do that if my wife and I are making .75 cent for every dollar a man makes."
"I was tired of seeing the same old quotes from popular books and movies and authors, and I wanted to call attention to a problem that women face," she told The Huffington Post. "I've never really been ashamed to say that I am gay, so the LGBT aspect was simply who I am."
Coming out publicly, whether it's for the first time ever or the first time today, or even in a yearbook quote, helps advance LGBT equality. For more resources on coming out, visit HRC’s Coming Out Center.
