MSNBC Live’s Thomas Roberts, who is openly gay, will co-host the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow this November.
Roberts said he hopes his high profile position as a journalist and an anchor will lend support and hope to the LGBT community, particularly youth, in Russia.
“Let people see I am no different than anyone else,” said Roberts in a blog for MSNBC.
Russia’s treatment of its LGBT citizens is unacceptable, unrealistic and only promotes homophobia and intolerance for a community that does and will continue to exist,” said Roberts.

HRC has joined the Russian LGBT community and others across the globe in the fight to expose and repeal the anti-LGBT laws that put Russian citizens in harm’s way.
HRC will harness the energy of our members and supports, and all fair-minded Americans, to bring justice to Russia’s LGBT community. To learn more about Russia’s anti-LGBT laws and to support HRC’s work in Russia visit
