BREAKING: NH Passes Marriage Equality; On to Governor

This news just in from HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse on the gound in New Hampshire... After reaching a compromise on religious liberty language over the weekend, the marriage equality bill passed both houses of the state legislature today and now goes to Governor John Lynch for his signature.

Went to a cafe for quick sandwich. Sat next to someone wearing a Freedom To Marry sticker. I struck up a conversation and it turns out he worked in the Reagan Administration. He said, "I was a staunch Republican, but when I moved to NH, I registered as an Independent. On marriage and other issues, the Republican Party left me. Good luck today."

As of 10am eastern, the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), is holding the first Congressional hearing on the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA). The bill would allow citizens and legal residents in same-sex relationships to sponsor their partners for immigration purposes.

The Senate set to vote in one hour on the marriage bill and then it goes over to the House. Senator Martha Fuller Clark addressing the 300 rally attendeessaid, "today I call on all my Senate and House colleagues to vote in favor of equality, HB 73. It's time for liberty and freedom."
