Post submitted by Trevor Chandler, former HRC Associate Regional Field Director

Longtime HRC supporter Nike has once again stepped up to the plate in its support for equal rights with a massive donation of $280,000 to Oregon United for Marriage, the coalition to pass marriage equality here of which HRC is a founding member. In addition they have set up which will be used to help raise funds for the campaign.

Nike has been a longtime supporter of LGBT equality, from being one of the first major companies to implement nondiscrimination policies as well as supporting the passage of ENDA, to consistently scoring 100% on HRC's Corporate Equality Index. OR United Campaign Manager Mike Marshall said of the donation:

“Nike has just stood up for marriage equality in an unprecedented way, with a monumental financial contribution to support the Freedom to Marry and Religious Protection Initiative,” says Marshall. “Nike has been a leader for marriage equality, and this incredible move puts Nike out front among Oregon businesses who are taking a stand for winning the freedom to marry for Oregon’s same-sex couples. We are so proud and grateful for their generous support.”

HRC is a founding member of Oregon United for Marriage. Trevor Chandler is a Senior Regional Field Organizer with HRC, he is on the ground working to build the campaign’s coalition with the team at OUM to secure marriage equality for all Oregonians.
