Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and The New Yorker is showing some love for those families with two moms to celebrate this Sunday.
The issue's cover illustration depicts two women reading a card in a kitchen while three children look onward.
In a blog post about his cover, artist Chris Ware noted the growing momentum toward full societal acceptance and support of loving, committed same-sex couples.
"Few people today don’t know—or have in their families—at least one loving couple who are raising children, same-sex or not. And it’s really just the loving part that matters. That same-sex marriage could go from its preliminary draft of “diagnosable” to the final edit of “so what?” must indicate some positive evolution on the part of the larger human consciousness."
New Yorker is just one of a cadre of companies to feature same-sex couples and families. To learn more about LGBT-inclusive brands, visit HRC’s Buyer’s Guide.
