A major immigrant rights organization released new Spanish-language TV and radio ads today hitting Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) over his immigration record, including his vote against the Dream Act in 2010.

The ads, which are spearheaded by ICIRR Action and will target Latino voters in the district leading up to next Tuesday’s primary election, feature a DACA recipient and 3rd District resident named Elizabeth.

She blasts Lipinski for voting out-of-step with his constituents on immigration issues. Elizabeth urges voters to support Lipinski’s opponent Marie Newman — a true progressive champion who will fight for the most vulnerable communities.

“In 2010, my Congressman Dan Lipinski voted against the Dream Act despite calling himself a Democrat,” she says in the 30-second TV and 60-second radio spots. “In addition, he favors the construction of a wall and more funds for the border.”

“Now that we have a candidate, Marie Newman, my congressman Dan Lipinski says he supports the Dream Act,” she adds. “The truth is that he has never been on the side of the immigrant community.”

The ads conclude with a call for voters to support Newman on March 20, describing her as “a real Democrat” who will work to keep families together.

The initiative is just the latest effort by leading progressive groups to educate voters about Lipinski’s record and promote Newman, his opponent.
