New pew poll shows 61% of young Republicans suport marriage equalityA new poll from the Pew Research Center finds that 61 percent of Republicans under age 30 support marriage equality, while just 35 percent oppose it. Sixty-nine percent of all young people support marriage equality.

The poll also delves into family issues. Just 18 percent of young Republicans say “more gay and lesbian couples raising children” is bad for society.

More and more polls are tracking the rapidly shifting landscape for the support of marriage equality in this country. A recent New York Times/CBS News poll shows 56 percent of all Americans believe it should be legal for same-sex couples to marry. Just a decade ago in December of 2003, only 34 percent of Americans supported marriage equality.

The Pew poll reveals that 39 percent of all Republicans support marriage equality, and the NYT/CBS News poll showed 40 percent support. Less than two years ago, just 24 percent of Republicans said they thought it should be legal for gay and lesbian couples to marry.
