Today the most populous county in New Mexico, Bernalillo, began at 8 a.m. issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples.
Nearly half of the population of New Mexico now lives in one of the three counties that recognize marriage equality, following yesterday’s ruling by the Second Judicial Court calling on Bernalillo and Sante Fe county clerks to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Momentum for marriage equality continues to grow nationwide. In the 20 years since the movement began, public support has shifted toward supporting same-sex couples more quickly than almost any other topic.
