Oregon Governor Kate Brown was in Washington, D.C. today and came to HRC's office to say hello.
Brown was serving as Oregon's secretary of state when Governor John Kitzhaber resigned. She became governor on February 18, 2015.
Brown is the second female governor of Oregon* and she was Oregon's first female senate majority leader. When Kate Brown was in the Oregon Senate, she was a leader in the fight to pass domestic partnership benefits. She has always been a strong supporter of equality for all.
Oregon has had several women in leadership in recent years, including House Speaker Tina Kotek, who is a lesbian.
It was a pleasure to host a strong fighter of equality for all. Look for Governor Kate Brown to make more history in the years ahead.
Brown lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband Dan Little. She has two stepchildren, Dylan and Jessie.
*Oregon's first female governor was Barbara Roberts. After serving as governor, Roberts served on HRC's Board of Directors.
