The city council in Nashville, Tennessee passed a resolution for the city to comply U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of marriage equality in June of 2015.

The resolution is largely symbolic, given that marriage equality is now federal law. However, the move – the first of its kind in Tennessee -- plants Nashville’s flag firmly in the soil on the right side of history.

Meanwhile, across the state, Tennessee state officials and city commissioners are working to defy the Supreme Court’s ruling. Already Sullivan, Greene and Johnson counties have passed similar resolutions opposing marriage equality.
