The Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee yesterday heard testimony from supporters and opponents of a gender-identity bill that, if passed, would extend state nondiscrimination protections to transgender residents.
Should The Fairness for All Marylanders Act of 2014 (SB 212), which is cosponsored by 25 senators, receive the necessary number of votes from committee, the critical bill would then move to the Senate floor.
The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee failed to pass similar legislation last March by a narrow 6 to 5 vote.
HRC State Legislative Director Sarah Warbelow testified in support of the legislation. Read her testimony in its entirety here.
