On Saturday, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson married his longtime boyfriend Justin Mikita at a New York City ceremony in front of 200 guests.

Ferguson and Mikita are California residents, but decided to marry in New York, where marriage equality has been on the books since 2011.Same-sex marriage had not yet returned to California at the time of the couple’s engagement in September 2012.

Friends of HRC, Ferguson and Mikita have a long history of working for LGBT equality. In Fall 2012, the couple dedicated their collection of bow ties from their non-profit advocacy organization, Tie the Knot, to benefit HRC. Later, in the spring of 2012, Tie the Knot again helped to support LGBT equality by dedicating its collection to benefit the Respect for Marriage Coalition, a partnership co-chaired by HRC.

Join HRC in wishing Ferguson and Mikta congratulations and best wishes for their future.
