Today, on the grounds of the Illinois Capitol in Springfield, thousands gather for the March on Springfield. Individuals and couples, families and friends have converged in the rain and bitter cold on this first day of the veto session to let the state legislators know that the time is now. Illinoisans can no longer wait for marriage equality.
With only six possible voting days remaining in 2013, the Illinois House of Representatives is poised to debate the issue before they adjourn. With their Spring promise to Representative Greg Harris's ringing throughout the hallways of the historic building, legislators know that they will be called to answer the promise of liberty and justice for all families.
Illinois Unites for Marriage, the statewide campaign dedicated to securing marriage equality in Illinois, has been in the ground since January, facilitating tens of thousands of conversations between representatives and their constituents. HRC is proud to be a partner in this work and we know that the field focus of this campaign has been like nothing Illinois has ever seen. With only a few days remaining before the bill is called to the floor, we can't stop now. You can contact your legislator via email and phone - even if you've already done so.
Every person must raise their voice if we want to make Illinois the next state in the nation to assure all couples are treated equally.
