This past weekend marked the one year anniversary of a fatal shooting, killing six worshippers at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin on Monday evening, concluding three days of memorial services to commemorate the lives lost in this tragedy.
Amongst the many speakers that night was Valarie Kaur, an award-winning filmmaker, civil rights advocate, and interfaith leader, who has been a longtime friend of the HRC Religion and Faith Program.
Kaur’s beautiful remarks are available to read on her blog, along with a number of other pieces providing information and commentary on the levels of gun violence and hate crimes in the United States.
We join her and the community of Oak Creek in commemorating the lives lost in this tragedy and in looking ahead, working towards a more socially just world.
