On Thursday, HRC staffers attended a rally in Malcolm X Park in Washington, D.C, to remember Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed Saturday by a police officer in suburban St. Louis.
We joined thousands for a moment of silence in support the families and friends of recent victims of racial-based acts of violence. We chanted in union in support of justice for all oppressed people, and we held signs with the names and pictures of victims.
Earlier this week, 58 LGBT advocacy groups joined a letter of solidarity in response to Brown’s tragic death, proclaiming, “We are all part of the fabric of this nation and the promise of liberty and justice for all is yet to be fulfilled.”
