This week, The Advocate's 19th annual Out 100 list recognized HRC President Chad Griffin as one of the year's most compelling LGBT individuals.

Before Griffin took the helm as president of the Human Rights Campaign, he spent his career taking on entrenched, well-financed interests like big tobacco, big oil and the far right, and shaped national policy debates around equal rights, clean energy, universal health care, stem cell research and early childhood education.

As a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equality Rights, the lead-sponsor of the Proposition 8 lawsuit that brought marriage equality back to California.
