HRC is proud to be a leader in a new, bipartisan effort to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). The Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign, launched today, is working to pass ENDA through Congress and codify into law the shared value that every American should be able to work and provide for themselves and their families.
There is currently no federal law banning workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity – but it’s something that a supermajority of Americans from all walks of life support. Polling indicated that nearly 8 in 10 Americans – 77 percent – support workplace protections for LGBT employees. That figure includes 70 percent of Republicans, 77 percent of observant Christians, and 72 percent of Deep South residents.
HRC President Chad Griffin reiterated in a Washington Post story that ensuring all Americans have the opportunity to get and obtain a job is a fundamental American value:
Everyone should have the opportunity to get and keep a job and provide for themselves and their family. It’s a conservative principle and value, and it’s something the vast majority of voters agree with.
