The Human Rights Campaign’s Global Engagement team will join local LGBT activists for a rally outside of the Ugandan Embassy in Washington, D.C. this morning.

Today’s call to action aims to send a message to Uganda that the world is watching, and we demand justice for the LGBT community.

In December, Ugandan parliament passed a bill allowing the lifetime imprisonment of individuals “convicted of homosexuality.” The bill currently sits before President Museveni, who previously claimed he would not sign it into law without further “conclusive scientific proof” that homosexuality is not genetic.

Should President Museveni veto this bill, the Ugandan Parliament can override the presidential action by a two-thirds vote.
