Post submitted by Ashley Fowler, HRC Global Engagement Coordinator
HRC’s Director of Membership, Ann Crowley, recently presented at a three day workshop hosted by Open Society Foundations (OSF) in Prague. She spoke with Eastern European activists on how to build a broad donor base by building an engaged membership, as she has done for nineteen years at HRC.
The workshop focused on providing tools and techniques that will better equip grassroots organizations to find new donors. The eighteen attendees came from Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania.
The workshop also included presentations from Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Matty Hart of The Lafayette Practice, the Slovak-Czech Woman’s Fund and the IGLTA Foundation. Participants were provided time during breakout sessions to brainstorm ways that they would be able to apply the skills and techniques to their specific organizations and countries.
The workshop culminated with the Fourth annual Prague Pride parade. Ann was able to participate in the festivities, alongside the US Embassy, representing HRC at the largest pride event in Eastern Europe.
Through workshops like this, HRC is able to share its work and strengthen the LGBT movement internationally.
