While we wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to hand down decisions in two historic marriage cases, Germany’s LGBT community is celebrating its own win at the High Court.
Last week Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court decided legally registered same-sex couples are entitled to certain tax benefits enjoyed by opposite sex couples.
Under the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act in the U.S., legally married same-sex couples are denied similar tax benefits, along with 1,100 other federal benefits and protections.
Windsor v. U.S., which SCOTUS is expected to rule on sometime in the next few weeks, challenges the constitutionality of the DOMA. Stay tuned to for updates and breaking news from the Supreme Court.
