Joe Bell, an Oregon father who planned a 5,000 mile cross-country journey to raise awareness and support for anti-bullying programs, was struck and killed by a semi-truck in eastern Colorado on Wednesday.
Bell began his mission, "Joe’s Walk for Change," after his 15-year old, gay and mercilessly bullied son committed suicide earlier this year. The 48-year-old set off in April from his hometown of La Grande, Oregon to cover 5,000 miles on two artificial knees. He aimed to end his journey in New York City, where his son hoped to go to school.
Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to the Bell family during this tragic time.
